Everyone knows that children consume a massive amount of resources. The news is that single women without children have as much wealth as single men without children. So any statistics about women’s vs. men’s assets need to specify whether kids are involved or not.
Being a single mom is ruinous for wealth. But that’s not news. Before there was a safety net single moms would be forced to abandon their children or starve.
Whenever well-paying jobs have been available to women many would choose to avoid having children. The word “spinster” comes from the medieval profession of spinning yarn which women would work and stay single. Nowadays, women all over the world are avoiding having children, leading to a decline in population.
Or move back in with their parents, which also provided free daycare for their spawn. That’s what my mom did. in the late 50s. Around metro Detroit, there are plenty of kids being raised by their grandmothers or aunts. Isn’t there a newly elected high official who was raised by someone else, because his mom had substance abuse problems?
The new nominee for SecDef has said that women should not be allowed in combat. DoD would have a heck of a time filling the ranks without women. There was recently a piece on the network evening news about a front line USN sub, with a crew that is something like 30-40% female.
Speaking as someone heavily reliant on my husband during my medical problems, this is true for far more than finances. (Also, I love my husband like a teenager.)
