Battery swaps probably require a leasing arrangement. Otherwise crooks can swap your new battery for a failing one.
Batteries are tracked via serial number. That way, the mfr (of the vehicle) knows their “real world” performance. Of course, which car got which battery (pack) is closely tracked. Could even be a “phone home” system that is built into the battery (call with report every X weeks or months, for example).
In battery swaps, you still have the fundamental problem. When a battery fails, who owns it? Who pays?
When all batteries are owned by the leasing company, its a cost of business and everyone shares the burden. Not so when individuals swap batteries.
