The problem appears to be that Nissan expected a merger while Honda was looking for a takeover of its fellow Japanese automaker.

An interesting combination. Tesla lacks hybrids, a dealer network, and parts distribution. Nissan might resolve those gaps–if they can come up with a deal that fits.

Would MITI allow Nissan to be in the hands of Gaijin? Does Tesla want all that debt? Tesla can’t use all the Nissan factories. Closing the surplus plants would mean a huge writeoff.
Wait for Nissan to go BK, then pick the parts you want from liquidation.
