Their ambition is really impressive.
As an investor, and a partner looking to sell them, there is value to a diverse portfolio (lead with one solution but if rejected you may still walk away with a sale in other areas).

The key, for me, is in not having a huge portfolio just to say “we have that, too” or to have a portfolio that is full of commoditized/common products and solutions.

Nutanix has keyed in on hot/new areas and trends: HCI, multi-cloud mgmt, DB services via cloud, and now an SDN offering. They also offer their own hypervisor for virtualization. If you want to find a company they are trying to emulate, VMware is a good comparison and they hope to be as prevalent among the enterprise as VMware is today.

Notice I didn’t say they make servers, or SAN storage, or even flash storage, or tape libraries or networking switches. They are living in the evolving space between hardware, software, on-prem datacenters, and IaaS cloud titans. Pretty cool.
