Nutanix Officer abandons sinking ship?

On March 6, 2019, Louis J. Attanasio, Chief Revenue Officer of Nutanix, Inc. (the “Company”), notified the Company that he will be leaving the Company, effective March 8, 2019, to pursue other opportunities. The Company thanks Mr. Attanasio for his service to the Company.

Is he abandoning a sinking ship, or was he the one responsible for the lead generation mess, and is getting the axe? 2 days notice on leaving seems to indicate the latter. Either way, I sold my Nutanix.

Looks like he got the axe and was responsible for the lead generation mess

Attanasio was responsible for leading Nutanix’s global sales efforts, which include field and technical sales, inside sales, channel and OEM sales, as well as professional services, according to Nutanix’s website.

This makes sense since the market seems to like the news today.

“Sinking ship”…really?

A bit of a harsh subject line for a move by NTNX that actually is a good thing if he was the responsible party for the hiring/sales mishap.

Also, yesterday a Jeffries analyst upgraded NTNX to buy saying reward outweighs the risk.

NTNX up 11% in last 5 days (along with a lot of the other stocks discussed here). I’m not trying to say NTNX is a better investment than other stocks discussed here (at least not in the near term), but I also don’t think NTNX deserves a “sinking ship” moniker.

FYI - I do still hold my shares in NTNX.

When Attanasio left IBM he moved to Informatica to become President of Sales. IBM sued him when he made the transition. My son has been in sales at Informatica for about 8 years and said the guy was an unbelievable jerk (I won’t use his exact words). This morning, when I got the news, I emailed my son and asked if this was the same guy. He said it was and that everyone at his office was passing around the article and laughing. They were glad that he got just what he deserved.

I no longer own Nutanix, but if I did I would certainly pay special attention to the new, key hires.

NTNX President was hired by NTNX co- founder six months ago at $billion unicorn search/analytics Thoughtspot. He said he left NTNX because ‘HCI infrastructure is no longer seen as a value add and enterprises are going with lowest cost solution. I think Current sales reps going back to focus on HCI while new reps focus on expansion is not going to be any quick fix there. So, I sold the second half of my NTNX today. I’m looking at CLDR ER for merger results.
