OT: Britain Blasted

Yes, that’s ‘blasted’ with 25°C temps.
25C ==> 77F

Sounds like a good day to go to the beach.

They’ve been reporting weather like this in Jolly Olde for about 10-15 years now. The temp maps on the evening news used to show 70 degrees as green or light yellow/orange. Now, the same temps at the same time of year are posted in dark orange or red and reported as “hot” instead of “warm” or “pleasant” . The actual temps have remained the same.

The fuss that they are making over 78 F is absurd. Right now, my A/C is set to 78!!! Yes, I know all about humidity because I live in Florida. But even so, 78 with high humidity is NOT AT ALL dangerous and should never be called a “heat wave”. Ridiculous.

In July, the average high temp in MN hits 84F - 85F (28C - 29C, for July 10 - 24 or so). Then it begins the long slow slide to 23F - 24F (-5C or so, for Jan 10 - 24 or so). These temps have been slowly-but-steadily going up for some decades now.

HA! Back in May 1978, we were on honeymoon in Crete, and English newspapers available in our hotel were announcing a heatwave with headlines like “SIZZLING 70s!!”

Yep dad and sisters are in London this week. They reported back London is having a heatwave. The three of them do not know it was 78F. They landed it was in the 60s degrees.

Last September we were in London. It was hot. We were in the Victoria and Albert Museum on the 3rd floor and about to head up to the 4th floor when we were told that for the safety and health of the staff the 3rd and 4th floors were being closed.

Limerick Leader shows that Ireland is in the same heat plume as UK. Ireland could be days away from welcoming a heatwave with temperatures potentially hitting 27C, according to a number of forecasters.

I hope they enjoy the warmth…
