OT: It beats doomscrolling through the morning

I get a newsletter from The Listeners’ Club. Today’s sent me down an Erik Satie rabbit hole and introduced me to the violinist Ray Chen. It was a pleasant way to start the day.

If you like Erik Satie, try Claude Debussy, Gabriel Fauré, Joseph-Maurice Ravel and Camille Saint-Saëns.

Here’s a touch of relaxation for you. Close your eyes and take some deep breaths.

(The Girl with the Flaxen Hair, by Claude Debussy)

(Young Woman Braiding Her Hair, by Pierre-Auguste Renoir)

Wendy (give me art and music up to the end of the 19th century; you can keep most of what came after)

I have quite a bit of music of those 3. Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony is my goto piece of classical music when testing hifi equipment.

Oh my, Gymnopedie and Fille aux Cheveux de Lin….my daughter’s signature pieces for her final NYSMA recital (piano) She still plays them😍 We also did the duet….me piano and her flute. We didn’t sound quite like this. IIRC, the score has lots of flats and I frequently had a hard time scrambling to grab chords…..which left her holding a note until she got light headed

By the way, Wendy ….lest you think I’m une poseur….that’s the title on her piano score. Also, my dad had an LP years ago that feature his crony’s son playing it on solo cornet….as a member of City of Coventry Silver Band. I always thought that was amusing (almost, I guess)

The Beatles achieved a lot.

I have a young friend in a community making music conceptually using the ideas of the day around him in talented ways. Enter a child of the 60s and concept albums. He wants me a 62 to be involved with the design of the next album. Then he loses his manager. My nephew a music manager out of Nashville may take him on. He is listening now to the young man’s music to see if it is a working idea. All three of us want a concept album.

Today 220k songs per day are released. There is no way to be found. You could record Ava Maria today and no one would know.
