You should absolutely forbid plugging someone else’s (or a found) USB thumb drive into your PC (or a device connected to your network - and for similar reasons, don’t plug yours into someone else’s.

If you absolutely have to transfer files on a “chip” then use an SD-type memory chip (the type used by cameras and phones) as they are “pure” memory, while USB drives have a rudimentary operating system which can be coopted by malware. (Files on an SD chip can be infected viruses, but the chip itself is unlikely to “automatically” infect your PC).

This hacking tool at $59 is a very cool (and scary) hacking tool.
