OT: Saint John's in Porto

A very popular celebration with fireworks, BBQ sardines, roast peppers, and hot air balloons which will litter your yard in the morning. I can see three from my window.

It is also a very popular festivity in Venezuela with lots of African drums. It was the only day that slaves were allowed to celebrate. My sailing club in the 1960s was located at Naiguatá.

Curiepe is a town in Barlovento (Windward), a wooded mountainous area where escaped slaves hid, now know for its drums. The drumming is uninterrupted for hours with drummers taking turns.
