This is not a political post. I am genuinely curious as to how star-led media has value to any buyer without the star of the program.
What is the value of Infowars - or any podcast program no longer associated with the star of the show? I can think there might be some tiny bit of revenue if you can charge for advertising on replays of prior shows but what value would there be for any new programs without the star of the show?
And why can’t the star simply go start a new show that is just as profitable?
I think of the O’Reilly Factor. That show obviously generated revenue. Bill O’Reilly went on to do other work and I assume still makes money trading on his name but the O’Reilly Factor had no value once he was gone. The O’Reilly Factor was of course replaced by the Tucker Carlson Tonight show, which was again replaced by Fox News Tonight and now Tucker is generating new revenue based on his name.
I just don’t see how this auction has much value to any buyer. What am I missing?
I agree but I’m seem to recall the expectation might be getting 8 or so million dollars at the auctions. No one is expecting anything other than the families getting pennies on the dollar. It is mostly equipment and furniture. I don’t know if there is any property involved.
Not really. Value is in the eye of the beholder. You see people rummaging in trash dumps, they find value that we would not find.
Once upon a time a man came to our house and asked for a handout. My mother said to him, “Our garden needs some work. After tending to the garden, come in and have lunch.” The man replied, “What? Me work?” And he left. He did not see value in the transaction. My mom did.
