Postdoc university research losing students to industry. They are the main workers in developing new drugs and procedures

I wonder how many months the teacher works vs the custodian?

I’m pretty sure custodians get overtime, whereas teachers do a lot of labor off-the-clock.

Yup. I have mentioned before, my aunt taught third grade, for decades. She spent a part of every weekday evening, sitting at the dining table, grading papers. I wonder if the summer vacations fully compensated her for all that unpaid evening work she did at home?

Of course, Michigan has flox of “charter schools” now, where the faculty is non-union, so does not receive the pay, pension, and retiree health insurance benefits that my MEA member aunt did.

And some of the postdocs who aren’t leaving are unionizing.

The words union and university originate from the same root word. “University” originally meant a guild or union of scholars.

Looks like the postdocs are going back to the well.
