Rearranging Deck Chairs

Both Genoa and the INTC Ponte Vecchio GPU accelerator are on the TSMC N5-HPC, which is supposed to certify in Q2 of this year. Both companies have said those products are shipping in H2 2022. I suspect the biggest change in the HPC process is the power routing, given server parts are closer to 350W as opposed to the 15W or so in cell phones.

Even though Milan significantly outperforms Icelake, Intel shipped as many Icelake server chips in Q4 as AMD shipped total server chips. Intel is still above 85% market share in servers. There is much more to the server market that just core count, performance/watt, and benchmarks. Servers tend to have a fairly long qualification cycle, and a very long life cycle.

With Genoa in 2022, and Granite Rapids in 2024 it sounds like a 2 year gap, but it could be much less with Genoa late 2022 and Granite Rapids early 2024. It remains to be seen how this will play out.
