Rivian gets $6.6 billion federal loan to finish Georgia plant

Aren’t they basically owned by Volkswagen and Amazon now? Why can’t they finish the plant?

VW has committed to a string of investments over the next few years, totaling something over $5B, mostly to get their hands on Rivian’s software, because VW’s software sux. Some of those investments do include equity. I can’t find the graphic, right now, that lays out all the steps in the investment program.

TFG says he is openly EV-hostile. His base certainly is. I hope that loan to Rivian is recalled, before a big piece of it goes to money heaven. Other automakers have sunk Billions in to EVs. What will TFG offer them to soothe their hurt over their dreams of banking Tesla sized GP going poof?

The big dog of Tesla, moves against another EV maker. Pure self-interest, or the predictable result of an openly EV-hostile government?

Can’t it be both? (with one EV exception, of course)

Is Musk the sort whose only care is “ol number 1”? Yeah, he’s a “JC”. That makes the question redundant.

Of course, the narrative of “supply side economics” was always to use the government to make the rich richer.
