Amazon and Rivian struck a deal in 2019 to put 100,000 electric delivery vans on the road by 2030.
Saw a Rivian SUV in town last week.
The old man behind the wheel was a bat out of hell.
Instead of VW pouring over $5B into Rivian, and blowing another $2B building a plant to build their Scout EV, why doesn’t VW just contract Rivian to put Scout bodies on the platform it’s already building, in the plant it already has, and call it a day?

For the same reason ALL business decisions are made … because they don’t believe that it will produce enough profit to make the endeavor worthwhile.
I’ve seen about a dozen of them running around town over the past month. Didn’t know Rivian made them but from the looks you knew it wasn’t a normal ICE van.
There is an Amazon warehouse a few miles from my home. There are flox of those EV vans in the lot. I also see Rivian pickups and SUVs in routine traffic. But then, Rivian’s engineering center is only a few miles from my home too.

As I recall Rivian went through some problems getting materials to get started. Looks like they are now in production, but according to Yahoo Finance still reporting losses. But making progress.
