Someone was told by their tax preparer that he/she cannot contribute to a Roth IRA if he/she earns over $10,000 and files the tax return as Married Filing Separately. I find this had to believe. Any truth to this? I haven’t researched any of it myslelf yet. I’ll also ask this on the retirement planning board.

That’s correct if they lived with their spouse for even one night during the year. From IRS Pub 590-A 2024 Publication 590-A
One of the many reasons why it’s generally less financially advantageous to file MFS instead of MFJ.
