If that’s what winning looks like, I really hate to see defeat!
Cost of war is so high, both financially and from a humanitarian POV, that it is very hard for either side to actually “win” a war. One side simply loses less than the other.

Well, I’m glad the Greeks lost less than the Persians at Marathon and Salamis.

Even if Russia should manage to take Ukraine, they won’t be able to occupy it, especially with aid coming in from outside the war zone.
The Ukrainians know quite well that the Russians are capable of genocide, so they have a very strong incentive to never give up.
I suspect the Russians intend to invade from Moldova, the same way Hitler invaded from Belgium.
I also suspect that Putin is dying, and what happens after that depends on who takes over next.
Two words to those who think Russia has won:
Brain drain.
It turns out that losing lots of smart people is, well, not smart. This will have a devastating impact on Russia’s future as well as helping its perceived opponents.
Classical lose-lose scenario for Russia.
But there’s good news; Putin is probably the richest man in the world so he doesn’t give two hoots.

Thank you for recommending this post to our Best of feature.
As our own DesertDave is fond of pointing out, war isn’t over until both sides say it is or one side can’t fight anymore.
Technically correct (which is the best kind of correct) thanks for the attribution.
A war isn’t over until BOTH sides say it is over or one side is no longer capable of insisting that it isn’t.

De-Nazification is just Russian propaganda.
And it’s propaganda that resonates, because the biggest hurt put on Russia in living memory was done by Nazis. We get fed the same sort of thing in Shinyland, except substitute Commies or Muslims for Nazis.
