I’m curious. Carrie Underwood will be performing at the inauguration on Monday. Do you feel she sold her soul as well?

Arguably, Taylor Swift is more popular. Where will she be that day, and why?

Will she:
Dig her key into the rump
Of the worst human being named Donald T…
Of course she won’t. She’s the same person who made fun of the ACA during the Country Music Awards. She’s clearly in line with the Haitian Haters. She didn’t have to sell her soul, she just might be a terrible human.
I’m biased. I don’t believe someone who tried to overturn a free and fair election should ever be trusted with the presidency. That’s apart from the myriad of other reasons why he shouldn’t be allowed in the office. Conflicts of interest? Yep. Past sexual assault? Yep. Past obstruction of justice? Yep. Past infidelity? Yep. Extensive history of dishonesty? Yep. Past racism? Yep. My fingers are getting tired…
Everyone who thinks this is a normal inauguration, of a normal president should take a good hard look at themselves.
I dunno. It sounds like she’s being urged by the deplorables to perform. I’m guessing she won’t, because you know, she doesn’t want to condone assholery.
As noted in another thread, reportedly, the thousand, or so, Billionaires in the US “donated” over $600M to pols, just in 2024. Does anyone think the pols hear, or care, what Proles say? As I said in November, “buckle up”. Embrace the corruption. Embrace the oligarchy. Because that is what we have.

Yep, a lot of people did. It was a catchy enough to go under the radar yet also be a gay anthem.
Not on the same order, but the lead singer of Judas Priest (Rob Halford) is gay. But long before he was out it was clear from the lyrics he was gay. This was well known among the metal community at the time and the consensus was…no one cared! Halford was ripping some great metal and that’s all anyone cared about.
As a coda, the Village People had a minor hit with “Go West.” The Pet Shop Boys covered it and released on a B-side. Surprisingly, it was a bigger hit than the original, in part because of the surrealistic, art deco infused video.
Edit to add: “Go West” is also a gay anthem. “West” being San Francisco. But again, it was ambiguous enough it could fly under the mainstream radar.
I had a terrible image of “gay” people until I met some in the theater and at parties. They were interesting people. What people do in their private lives is non on my business. What really upsets me is underage children, who cannot defend themselves, being abused.

While that doesn’t really have anything to do with being gay, me too.

My oldest child is gay (you don’t have to put it in quotes). We’re consistently reminded by my Christian-right in-laws they they love our kid, despite the gayness. How Christian of them!
The hardest part as a parent of a gay kid is worrying about the bullying. I had nightmares of my kid being Matthew Sheparded.
We’re fortunate to live in an area where it wasn’t an issue. Also, it’s 2025. Today’s youth are generally much better than we were.
Do you know why I put “gay” in quotes?
The Captain
Because you assumed they were gay without getting to know them?
I guess I also assumed and gave you the benefit of doubt.
No. Its misuse destroyed one of the most beautiful words of the English language.

Language changes, cap’n. As does everything. Loved my college class on comparative linguistics…so interesting to see how languages have evolved over time.
I hear ya, that’s how I feel about “slather”.
“Awful” used to mean “awesome” as in, inspiring awe.
“Artificial” used to mean made by artisans.
“Naughty” used to mean naught, or nothing. Now it means bad.
My personal bugaboo is the word “data” is plural. That’s how I still use it. “Datam” is singular. But except in shrinking technical circles, “data” has become singular, so that means…it is singular.
…and “gay” was very likely a word originally from medieval French theater jargon, “gai saber”, that did not mean cheerful and bright but rather a specialized form of a deeper knowledge that mocked the shallowess of certain forms of supposed moral superiority and dogmas….
