Amazon has lots of extraction tools. I try these before the superglue approach.
Thanks! I ordered that extraction tool from Amazon.
I also ordered a new cable.
So Iāll see on Tuesday if I can get it out without opening the computer.
I tried the youtube one. Couldnāt get it to work.
Incredible. There really is a tool for every occasion! And Amazon will invariably have it for sale!! Good luck!
Surprised me! I guess because Iāve never broken any, would never have thought there was a fixit tool! Nice catch!
Iāll let you know on Tuesday if it works. If not, Iām going to try to get onsite warranty service!
I wonder if itās possible, if all else fails, to connect speakers to the computer via USB? With an adapter maybe?
Have faith: youāll get the broken piece out.
And of course, thereās an adapter. This one looks good. Sabrent is a well-known name: Amazon.com: SABRENT USB External Stereo Sound Adapter for Windows and Mac. Plug and Play No Drivers Needed. (AU-MMSA)
Although there are complaints about the sound quality on the USB-C version with the cable. The USB-A version looks maybe better.
Connected my TV to the computer via HDMI like I used to. Choosing āduplicateā in the display settings. Iām getting video but no audio.
I donāt see how this is related to my other audio issue, since that one is just a matter of the audio out port not being able to be used for external speakers. That has nothing to do with the HDMI to TV connection.
So this seems like a separate issue.
Any ideas about this one?
This help?
Thanks for the link to the extraction tools! It worked. Although I couldnāt get it to work, tried several times, gave up, and then my wife got it to work!
But thatās just one fix. Iām still trying to get the HDMI sound to work and am at my wits end with that.
I have to admit, Iām tempted to return the computer, get a refund, and live with my old slow one for the rest of my life, LOL! Iām calling Dell tech support tomorrow and if they canāt help me, I will seriously consider returning it.
Maybe ask your wife to fix it.
Have you said what your sound system, speakers are? Does it have a manual, alternate inputs? Might be simpler to find a replacement that works with your Dell⦠??
I at least am confused. Exactly what are you trying to do? i.e. Play a YouTube video (or some other file) known to have audio on your display screen? You also have talked about a TV. Do you use a TV for displaying computer output?
Macs have a specific system in which audio output can be directed to an output. On my Mac I can sent audio individually to about a dozen output0. I can not sent the audio to more than one of the options at the same time. The system does remember my previous audio output locations used and will select the most recently used of the posible options. e.g. a device can receive the audio signal. This does not need be the device getting the video signal.
In the event an AppleTV is turned on there will be no audio because the AppleTV makes sound by using the TV speakers and the TV is off.
Based on a quick Google search, it appears Windows also has a system that lets you direct which output gets an audio signal.
I got the speakers for the computer working by using the audio input port. We fixed that.
Iām talking about the HDMI to TV issue now. With my old computer, I had an HDMI cable going from my computer to the TV under the house and up into the living room. So I could watch whatever is on the computer screen on the TV by pressing the Windows button and the āPā button, and then choosing āduplicateā instead of āPC Screen Onlyā. That would allow the video and audio to be seen and heard on the TV. The video would remain on the computer also, but no audio on the computer.
Now when I do the above, there is video on the TV but no audio.
I hope I am explaining clearly.
I will be trying a new adapter tomorrow when it arrives, and then calling Dell tech support if that doesnāt work.
Iāll update you!
Thanks.

And heck, itās only been a few days. Your setup is fairly complex. It is not surprising that there is some āteething painā. Donāt return the PC yet!
Yeah, Iāll keep trying
But how is it complex? Seemed so straight forward on my old Dell computer. All I did was plug an HDMI cable into the TV and computer, click Windows-P, and choose āduplicateā. Thatās all I did. No settings to change, no issues whatsoever.
Maybe itās something they did in Windows 11. Itās not just a new computer, itās a new OS.
Thanks for the link. Iāll take a look. And also call Dell if needed.
I have so much going on with my wifeās health issues that itās hard to find the time or patience for this. So thatās partly why I may sound overly frustrated!
Well, you seem to have mentioned a few strange cables and connectors that you wanted to keep using. But maybe Iām biased because I have an unusually non-complex setup. Just an external Samsung SSD drive connected to a USB port on my Lenovo laptop. But even that single connected thing has required trying several brands of cables before it was stable and as fast as it was billed to be. There have also been various issues related to the laptop fan running at high speed for no reason and random reboots during the night.
Iāve found that computer software ALWAYS complexifies and becomes more problem-rife as time progresses. Such is the price of āprogressā.
Does anyone know how to stop the computer from āentering power save modeā? Itās really annoying!
Another test I did to try to get the HDMI to TV issue working is I plugged a USB-C to HDMI adapter into the USB-C port and plugged the monitor into that. So that works and frees up the HDMI port for my TV.
But when I plug the HDMI TV cable into the HDMI port, the screen goes black and says āentering power save modeā and stays black! So I canāt do anything. Keyboard or mouse usage does not exit that mode.
I already changed the power setting to āneverā on the āturn off the displayā settings.
I would like to disable the āpower save modeā altogether.
Is it a Dell monitor perchance? If so, the monitor - actually, whether a Dell monitor or not - itself might be the thing entering power save mode, and might have to do with the HDMI input not being found. See:
