There are two ideologies. One builds capital till it becomes totally corrupt. The other builds factories till inflation sets in. Each takes a turn. Other nations circle our national economy in this dance.
Totally corrupt while losing our industrial base is pretty stupid.
I disagree with your position which has been biased in the past. I want everyone to think about how economics is often directly the result of politics.
How do you separate BREXIT from economics and politics?
How do you separate Russia-Ukraine war from economics and politics?
How do you separate world-wide protests from economics and politics?
How do you separate UN decisions from economics and politics?
How do you separate Gaza War from economics and politics?
How do you separate immigration from economics and politics?
How do you separate taxation from economics and politics?
How do you separate environmental issues from economics and politics?
I believe posts and discussions on METAR should stress the economics importance with or without the polical causes.
With some frequency, a topic starts with an issue I am interested in and then veers off into something like Israel and Gaza. Mute the thread and I will miss anything on the original topic.
Itâs not so simple. What if you are very interested in discussions about the macro effects of recent Russian warmongering, but you arenât interested in discussions about how bad/good communism is, or about how bad good party A/party B is regarding funding Ukraine, or about any political thing tangentially related to it. If you hide the thread, you hide the stuff you want to discuss AND the stuff you donât want to discuss.
I am constantly skipping non-econ stuff here. Most of the opinions make little sense. People go on at length anyway. Then someone points out at length that it made little sense. Then we have a long-winded conversation about âwhat ifâ as if there might be an agreement. Any agreement never materializes.
Bloviating
It is okay to skip something here. Makes sense if you want to get on with business to just keep moving.
Wendy is not the final arbiter. CMFMints of Motely Fool Community management is the final arbiter. Wendy and the rest of us can flag post that violate Motely Fool Community rules. There is no Motely Fool Community rule about no politics unless it becomes personal, or hateful, or disgusting, etc. Read the Motely Fool Community rules if you do not understand.
As I said in an earlier post, I do disagree with Wendyâs proposal for a total elimination of politics on this board. Politics is the basis of many economic risks and concerns in our lives. I see that many other members of this board enjoy the more robust discussions METAR offers without total elimination of politics.
I find it difficult to separate politics from a lot of METAR topics. Hereâs an oldie, but a goodie -
âIn summary, this paper suggests that positive models of economic policy cannot and should not ignore the political arena.â
Iâve occasionally bashed politicians because of their economic positions.
This is different than being disrespectful of others on this board. No matter the topic, that should be the threshold for what is flagged or banned.
Thatâs probably true, right up until a new regime in Mexico decides to nationalize the factories and the peasants decide to take over the means of economic production.
The takeover of Mexicoâs energy industry in 1938 is still celebrated as a great event in Mexico; thereâs a culture there that factory builders might want to look at. (Nah, wonât happen in the next quarter, so nothing to see here.)
Is there some reason that a new regime in America canât decide to nationalize the factories or our peasants take over the means of economic production?
Less likely than Mexico for sure, but we live in interesting times. Perhaps weâll just annex Mexico and acquire factories that way.
Ever see the Saul board here on MF? You canât even post there unless the leader of the board (Saul) approves you. And if he dislikes a post, it is gone instantly. No flagging or anything like that. And thereâs a lot more than politics that is banned there!
Goofy Mexico is a cycle or even two behind us in economic development. The country needs more of an infrastructure buildout. Nationalization is necessary.
The US wonât do it because we do not need to do a massive lift of the middle class out of a great depression. We need to enrich the country with tax payer money. If we nationalize industries we have fewer tax receipts.
A rising tide lifts all boats. Regardless of how complicated Saul might get that is all it amounts to.
His reputation for being a cantankerous guy is a waste of time for anyone with talent. Complicated diatribes do not change that. Most people can not communicate well.
@WendyBG Most of us want to honor your vision for this board. Most of us want to support you when there might be some dirty work.
I think it is not broken. I doubt it should be fixed.
