Snowflake stealing Databricks thunder

At Snowflake’s annual user conference, Snowflake Summit 2023, Snowflake and Microsoft will be demonstrating the latest product integrations

Snowflake’s Keynote is followed by a fireside chat with Jensen Huang, CEO/Founder of Nvidia.

Also this week, set up prior to Snowflake, Databricks annual conference has a video chat with Microsoft set as a highlight.

In the link above, I most enjoyed reading the following:

“Investment management decision-making depends on timely access to a complex ecosystem of data. Delivering this information to our clients with quality and speed, while simultaneously providing advanced analytical capabilities and a sophisticated user experience is what State Street Alpha is all about,” said John Plansky, Head of State Street Alpha. “Partnering with Microsoft’s Azure Cloud and Snowflake, our teams can bring data together with a natural language question and answer type solution. We are able to aggregate content at scale, integrate it with a large language model, make it available in a secure way, and remove friction for our customers, giving them information in near-real time.”

In this case, Nvidia is taking a “fairly engineering intensive” move of embedding its NeMo platform for training and running generative AI models into the Snowflake Data Cloud

“This is significant. This is the last mile that we’ve been waiting for 40 years,” said Frank Slootman, Chairman and CEO of Snowflake. “Every industry is on this. They used to say software is eating the world. Well, now data is eating software,”.

I also enjoy reading the tech details; but, I really don’t understand most of it. So, I’ll just keep,it at that for now.

If anyone has a layman’s way of saying, while keeping it correct technologically, in how this is likely to effect an investment strategy, please do. I imagine Nvidia will eventually empower Databricks, as well as anyone else for that matter?

Still exciting, none the less, IMO.

Manuvir Das, Nvidia’s head of enterprise computing told Venture Beat:
“…more than 8,000 Snowflake customers store exabytes of data in Snowflake Data Cloud. As enterprises look to add generative AI capabilities to their applications and services, this data is fuel for creating custom generative AI models,” said Das. “Nvidia NeMo running on our accelerated computing platform and pre-trained foundation models will provide the software resources and compute inside Snowflake Data Cloud to make generative AI accessible to enterprises.”

Muji-
‘…Nvidia’s entire AI Enterprise suite could be used within (a Snowflake) native app – again, entirely embedded within the Snowfake secure and governed Data Cloud. This is a big deal.’

The Software for Building Accelerated Production AI

The software layer of the NVIDIA AI platform, NVIDIA AI Enterprise offers 100+ frameworks, pretrained models, and development tools to accelerate data science and streamline development and deployment of production AI, including generative AI, computer vision, and speech AI. With NVIDIA AI Enterprise, organizations can focus on harnessing the game-changing insights of AI, instead of maintaining and tuning software.

Me:
If you’re not familiar with Snowflake’s ‘Data Cloud’ that sits over the Hyperscalers (AWS. GCP, and Azure), I’m not sure any of this will make sense as important to an investor. I’ll just say, IMO, unless an enterprise is able to share proprietary, internal data then the benefirts of a standard LLM are just basic. This end to end AI factory that Snowflake has put together with Nvidia as a partner is necessary for AI to create the massive value that Slootman says CEOs in every industry are lining up for now.

Slootman, CEO of Snowflake and Nadella, CEO of Microsoft doing a 6 minute sales pitch, a couple days ago, on the Snowflake YouTube channel.

TL:DV- Nadella called out the ‘mission criticality’ for the ‘value add’ with this ‘next level expansion of the partnership between Snowflake and Microsoft’.

Nadella is quite a salesperson!
