It certainly is a good evasive maneuver but the very nature of DEI is contrary to human rights.

There would still a case to be made against Harvard for not changing to be in compliance with new directives.
DB2
Dear Captain,
What do you base that on? How is it against anyone’s human rights?
Dear Bob,
In a free society laws are challenged. Certainly EO are challenged. Directives are for dictatorships.
And it will go to court. I was just pointing out that the issue will be about current compliance, not “for things they legally had to do to be in compliance” as syke suggested.
And other governments. For example, the EU:
Or in Ireland…
This statutory instrument implements the Critical Entities Resilience Directive (EU) 2022/2557 and aims to strengthen the resilience of so-called “critical entities” in Ireland, ensuring they can withstand and recover from various disruptions…
Competent authorities must decide which entities they supervise should be counted as critical entities within 21 months of the entry into force of the Regulations, and those entities will be notified of their designation within one month of identification being made by a competent authority. The requirements then apply to critical entities from the date 10 months after their notification.
- National Strategy
- Competent Authorities
- Background Checks
- Incident Notification
- Cooperation with Other Member States
- Penalties and Enforcement

An executive order is not a directive.
What the EU or Ireland does through a committee is not the same usage of the word directive.
How so? I might grant you that certain forms of Affirmative Action could be contrary but how in the world is education, often voluntary education (even if you disagree with the topic), contrary to human rights?
I get the sense that you have no idea what Harvard is doing in terms of DEI.
Can you point out the human rights violations in the following?
Examples of Harvard’s DEI Initiatives:
This central office coordinates and implements various DEI programs across the university.
A prominent event that highlights themes of social justice and equality, according to Harvard Crimson.
A research center that explores issues of culture, identity, and belonging, according to Harvard Crimson.
An initiative to ensure that anatomical models used in teaching are representative of the diversity of the human body, according to Harvard Crimson.
Trained students who facilitate discussions and create a more inclusive campus environment.
Focuses on community building, events, and workshops to advance women’s interests.
Provides resources and connections to help these students succeed.
Reviews Harvard’s progress in creating a more inclusive campus.
DoD has been giving us an idea of what constitutes “DEI”: the recognition of the accomplishments of anyone who is not straight, white, male, is “DEI”.
Steve
The best way to describe it is the old proverb, “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.” Communism is one excellent example.
Another way to illustrate it is horse racing. How do you make it more interesting? By handicapping the fast runners. You don’t improve the losers but you sure can slow down the winners.
DEI is the exact opposite of meritocracy.
The Captain
Only for certain definitions of DEI. For others, it is the exact definition of meritocracy.
Dear Captain,
That is not true at all.
White man’s paradise is what you are expousing. Locking out women and minorities cripples the ten percent across all demographics that are the true leadership. It is a self-defeating game.
Let me fix this for you - DEI helps ensure true meritocracy.
In my experience, the POC candidate is often 3-4 times more qualified than the wonder bread male candidate.
Anyhoo…how’s the current red hat “meritocracy” working out for us?
There isn’t any meritocracy. Anyone who says there is, is lying. Meritocracy is the road to hell and is paved by bribes, nepotism, religion, skin color, etc. People who claim Meritocracy only say it to make themselves feel better.
According to DEI, Nobel Prizes should be awarded by lottery.
According to DEI, Baseball players should all get the same salary.
According to DEI, all restaurants should charge the same prices no matter what dishes are ordered. All hotels should charge the same rates.
According to DEI, all wars should end in stalemate.
According to DEI, you spouse should be picked by lottery.
According to DEI, all Foolish posts should get the same number of likes. BTW, all posts should be the same length!
Huh? That don’t make no sense. Someone’s staying up too late watching OAN.
Before forming such a strong opinion against DEI, you should probably know what it is, and what it isn’t. Granted, this can be tricky as DEI isn’t universally defined.
That’s why we’re witnessing misdirected anti-DEI energy doing all sorts of crazy stupid things.
I decide what I should…
The Captain
According to DEI, all people should be given the same opportunity to enter scientific fields - so that people who could one day win a Nobel Prize aren’t excluded due to racial or other barriers they encountered early in their careers.
According to DEI, baseball players should all have the same opportunities to make the team based on their individual skill - and not have some players get a leg up because they have advantages due to past discrimination.
According to DEI, all restaurants should charge the same prices no matter who the customer is.
Etc..
See? It’s all about what definition of DEI you use.
Try to defend Meritocracy with these people who were chosen by the current administration. Tell me why they are the best this country has to offer.
Where is the Meritocracy?
I suppose it depends on what this administration is trying to accomplish.
If you want someone who’s the best at disposing of a bear carcass in a public park, we might have the right guy at HHS.
If you want someone who can figure out how to get her purse stolen in a public restaurant, with a full security detail in place, we might have the right person at DHS.
If you want a dude who’s really good at sharing highly classified information over Signal messages, we definitely have the right dude at DoD.
If you want a Border Czar who’s so corrupt he’ll violate laws, all the while funneling money to his private business, we might have the best of the best.
If you want a DNI who other countries won’t share intelligence with because of her undeniable defense of ruthless dictators…Gabbard is #1!
We may be misunderstanding the objective of these appointments…
Dear Denny,
You are full of something.
Dear Denny,
Absolutely and you have zero merit in what you are saying.
Dear Al,
He is not using a definition of DEI. I do not know what he is talking about but it is not DEI.
Dear E,
The wealth creation in the democratic capitalistic societies in 20% more per capita than the dictatorial or communist societies. Put that against the fact that all economic and accounting profits run to zero. That 20% is needed. The current goal is to rip down the 20% difference in per capita wealth. Whether Trump is mentally young enough to know where he is going? He is not. He is too old for the job.
