Which should surprise approximately no-one. Anyone who has the ambition to better his situation enough to make the crossing to the US, probably has the ambition to succeed at just about anything.
A Congressman from Michigan made his way here, legally, from India. Initially, he worked as a janitor, and lived in his car for a bit. Ended up founding and building a successful company, before selling the company and entering politics. I was at a historical lecture about rehabbing houses in Dearborn tonight. The speakers talked about an Iranian emigree, who no-one would rent a house to. The owner of the house rehab company pulled some strings and got the guy into a rental house, while he worked at menial jobs. That man is now the head of a department at Lawrence Technological University.

The Indian immigrant earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s in chemistry in India. Came to the US to earn a PhD at the University of Akron, then did post-doc work at U of M.
The janitor gig was apparently at Chemir, a small lab. He later obtained a loan to buy that lab, and his career in business was on it’s way.
While Thanedar is highly educated, there are opportunities at every level. The problem is the Shinies don’t like people with the “wrong” skin.
