TEMU just got more expensive

{{ President Trump is cracking down on a popular tariff exemption for goods from China that allowed small shipments to avoid duties and customs inspections.

Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order eliminating the so-called de minimis provision for low-value parcels from China, effective May 2. Under U.S. tax law, the de minimis provision allows companies to avoid import taxes and customs inspections on international shipments with a retail value of $800 or less.

Trump in February suspended the provision as part of an executive order imposing tariffs on imports from China. The order caused widespread confusion among e-commerce retailers and logistics operators and prompted the U.S. Postal Service to temporarily stop accepting parcels from China and Hong Kong before allowing them again. Trump later delayed the crackdown until the Commerce Department could set up a system to process inspections and levies on the shipments. }}

I was looking for a USB-C to USB-C charging cable just now. On Monday, my Tesla Advisor told me I’d have to remove my smartphone from its plastic protective case to use “wireless charging”. That’s inconvenient for me. But I did notice that there are a couple of USB-C ports on the center console for the use of the rear seat passengers that I could plug into so I needed to get a short USB-C cable. The cheapest one on TEMU was about $3 with a minimum $15 order for free shipping. I found one for $1.08 on E-bay with free shipping included (it’s almost to cheap to meter.)
