Read one article the other day saying the biggest issue will be recharging. No surprise there. The real surprise, the charging station would essentially generate enough electricity to power a small town. Unfortunately they didn’t define a small town but still significant.

There’s an article floating around somewhere that notes that Tesla has a new “water cooled” [edit: it’s “liquid cooled”, I don’t know if that means water or not] charging system for these trucks. Supposedly it will take only 30 minutes to recharge them, while gobbling vast amounts of electricity while it does that.

That said, has anyone seen the price of diesel lately? Sheesh! I recall the early days when diesel was a little cheaper than gasoline. That changed when we got our diesel RV, and it became slightly more expensive than. Nowadays I see the signs, and it’s like $2, $2.50 more per gallon. Crazy. A trucker could drop over $1,000 for a fill-up!

I haven’t seen details, but they’ve mentioned a megawatt charger. 1,000 kilowatts, if you figure you need about 5 kws per house, most houses don’t actually draw that much most the time, that would be 200 houses if we use that rough number.

Didn’t they post a video (an unedited 8 hour video?) of the 500 mile drive with a truck filled to 81,000 pounds?

Tesla Semi driving 500 miles, fully loaded, on a single charge

Cool news! Downhill the EV semi’s brakes don’t heat up, instead regenerative breaking charges the batteries.

Last I heard, hot diesel brakes don’t fill the gas tank!
:innocent:
