Tesla greatly expands Austin Robotaxi service area

They now serve the whole greater Austin metropolitan area, well beyond the current geofence.

Elon could be worth $2 Trillion before year end. {{ LOL }}

Oh please. They have fewer than 30 cars in service in Austin, with “only a fraction” of those available at any given time.

They expanded the geofenced area, so curious because Teslarati laughed when Waymo started up and did geofencing at all.

They have about 20 taxis. Big deal the region is bigger. They are tiny and not growing. Waymo continues to be the leader here.

the waymo driving experience I just had in San Fran was good enough to convince me that these will be a massive success.

$22 for a ride with nobody to worry about or chat up works well as a model. I configured the car while I waited, used my phone as a remote control, and shifted my pick up pattern as I walked around, while reducing the wait.

Will the Robotaxi complete? I hope so. The world needs more safe taxis.

My last two rides of the week (yesterday) were both aggressive, animated characters who either proved that human drivers suck by driving around other cars and people while shouting profanities or, in the case of the airport trip, literally got out of the car to shout at a construction crew that was moving a heavy crane near an on ramp to SFO.

Wild times! (but not for waymos…)
