Tesla owners are trading in cars at record rates amid Musk backlash

{{ Searches for used Teslas in February fell 16 percent from the previous month and 7 percent from the previous year, signaling that consumers are considering other electric vehicles, according to a February report from Cars.com. There are 76 models of used electric vehicles on the market this year, up from 58 a year ago, the report said. Meanwhile, searches for non-Tesla electric vehicles on Cars.com rose 28 percent over the past year, according to the car site. }}

I’m still hunting for a used Model Y less than $25,000 that qualifies for the $4,000 used EV tax credit. The Musk dysfunction is aiding the search and improving pricing. {{ LOL }}

Telsa autos will still be a valuable brand once it’s excised from Elon’s toxicity.

Sure just like an Edsel, it only has taken 70 years though, and that is only for some models.

I don’t think Edsel is the model. Teslas remain reliable high quality cars, it’s just the Musk brand that’s dragging it down.

Mercedes Benz and VW were still valued brands and profitable after Hitler.

Tesla’s brand cache’ was that you could buy a high tech, high performance car with features you couldn’t get anywhere else. That translated to amazing margins.

Tesla has since pivoted to focusing on mid level tech and features that other manufacturers provide. So I think the brand has been devalued.

This strategy has been a boon for the used market however.

You’ve got really good timing, reminds me of how you got great deals on cruises during the GFC.
Personally, I wouldn’t take a Tesla if it was given to me. Musk is derelict in his CEO duties, as well as being in lockstep with an overthrow of the Country. Might not be safe cruisin around in a Tesla as this all plays out.

That’s true and Ford after Ford.

I would. But I would spend the $50 to buy an Audi badge or something else, which I think would fool most of the idiots doing this sort of vandalism.

lol, good point.
But I’d still pass. Personally, not going to do anything that benefits Musk. Money ain’t everything.

How does a used car benefit Musk? I would say it doesn’t benefit him because the person is buying a used one instead of a new one. Unless you are counting the charging?

Hey, this is just me, everybody can do whatever they want in
these hypotheticals. But personally, I want 0% to do with Musk and the products that he fronts. Have never used Twitter, either.

I get it Joe just trying to get your opinion. My Mom boycotted McDonalds forever because they put her friends burger barn out of business. I couldn’t eat McDonalds till I left the house and don’t let me tell you what she thought of Walmart. :joy:

My Mom wouldn’t consider a Japanese car, even as her Detroit crap-mo-biles broke down every year or two.

Pearl Harbor, don’cha know.

On the other hand, my father, who was in the USMC and on Guam training for the invasion of Japan when the war ended, did reconcile his (strong!) feelings about the war and bought a Datsun. What changed his mind was reading The Chrysanthemum and the Sword, which went helped him understand the Japanese culture.

Musk told his employees not to sell there shares, now how many times have I heard CEO’s say that right before the whole boat sinks? Also it looks like his board and brother are not listening to him because they are selling. Nice Job Elon only the cult believes you now.

might check Consumer Report for their findings on Tesla!

OK, I did.

Consumer Reports generally views Tesla as a brand with average reliability, though some models like the Model 3 and Model Y have average reliability, while the Model X and Model S have below-average reliability.

I’m sure Consumer Reports didn’t include the likelihood of your car being spray painted while you’re shopping at the mall :wink:

Or being keyed. All sort of things to worry about.
