The economic logic of DeSantis's decision

The vast majority of the people who are sickened will be back in their home states before they develop symptoms so it won’t be FL’s problem.

“Come on down!”
But go home before your health problems surface.

DeSantis reminds me of the mayor in Jaws.

With the recent SCOTUS decision, what happens to OSHA regs? “This is a free country. No-one made you take this job. Now go home and be sick on your own time”. Florida has already passed a law overriding local ordinances that “burdened” the “JCs” by requiring water and cool-down breaks for people working in the summer heat.

Huh? The vast majority of people at the beaches are locals! Even at the peak of tourist season that is the case. Maybe at the few private hotel beaches, there are a lot of tourists, but at the public beaches? Mostly locals and a few tourists.

I was in Destin a few years ago in September, it sure seemed like it was majority tourist. M-F, beaches were crowded during working hours. Don’t think that has changed, but you live in Florida so you’d know better than me.

As an aside, Destin had one of the nicest beaches I’ve ever been on. And I could not believe how warm the water was, it kind of freaked me out, lol. I’m used to crystal clear but brisk ( I like to call it refreshing, lol ) water, the water off of Destin felt like bath water to me.

The whole gulf is like a bathtub. It also remains shallow for quite a distance out. The Atlantic is a few degrees cooler and the Pacific is a few more degrees cooler.
