The free world vs. Putin

First, keep in mind the video being broadcast could be staged propaganda.

They’ll have proof. It takes a while and it’s still a war zone. But what they have now is amazing satellite photos that they likely didn’t have in most other war crimes cases.

Maybe this even connects this whole thread to investment and macro trends.

Satellite images show bodies in Bucha for weeks, rebutting Moscow claim
Mid-March satellite imagery of a Bucha street appears to show several bodies of civilians lying dead in or just off the roadway where Ukrainian officials recently said they found multiple corpses after Russian troops withdrew.

“High-resolution Maxar satellite imagery collected over Bucha, Ukraine (northwest of Kyiv) verifies and corroborates recent social media videos and photos that reveal bodies lying in the streets and left out in the open for weeks,” Maxar Technologies spokesman Stephen Wood said Monday in a statement.

You mean like it did in Germany and Japan in 1945.

Yes! Change has to come from within. All the Allies did was to convince Germany and Japan that it was a good idea to demilitarize.

LOL!

All the Allies did to ‘convince’ Germany was to invade and occupy the country with armies as air forces bombed the hell out of German cities.

All the Allies did to ‘convince’ Japan was to bomb two of their cities to smithereens with atomic bombs and promise: “If they do not now accept our terms they may expect a rain of ruin from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this earth.”

Yeah, change from within with GI boots up their butts.

The reason WWI led to WWII was that WWI ended badly, in an armistice, not in a total humiliation rout like WWII. You got to beat the crap out of the aggressors, out of the bullies.

Odd, that’s not how I remember the story?

After World War One, Germany was severely punished by the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. The newly formed Weimar Republic faced much opposition from both right- and left-wing groups. From 1918 to 1933, reparations payments, hyperinflation and the Great Depression caused much economic hardship for the German people.

Tim, call the bank, your reality check (Cheque?) just bounced.

Reparation payments, hyperinflation and the world wide Great Depression caused much economic hardship for the German people after WWI, BUT that wasn’t ‘total humiliation’ it was more like hard times.

After WW2 the Allied powers occupied a Germany that had been bombed to smithereens.

THAT was what severely punished looked like.

After WWII the United States, France and Britain maintained control of a bombed out West Germany.

The Soviet Union controlled the bombed out East Germany. The western sections, under Western Democracies prospered and rebuilt. Soon East Germany had to build a wall to keep their own people in.

Some people still think that the use of force is ALWAYS a bad thing. Force is the last resort against evil. The first is to let evil know it’s going to get its butt kicked to Kingdom Come.

So the first group of ~100K+ “highly trained and motivated” soldiers couldn’t do the job, so now they are going to send in the B team to do the job properly?

It could also be that they are being sent to do a different job. Maybe the original job was “take over Ukraine as quick as possible, and with minimal damage, so we can install a puppet government and control it”. And maybe the new job is “since we couldn’t take over Ukraine, go in and destroy everything and slaughter the people”.

That’s part of the new job for sure. But I think they are still trying to salvage a portion of Plan A. A large natural gas field was discovered in 2010 in the Donbas region. Development was blocked by the Russia sponsored separatist war. If Ukraine could develop that field it would certainly change the energy calculus in Europe and potentially be a low to Russia.
