The Gulf of Mexico America? America Mexico?

I could get behind calling it the Gulf of the Americas - recognizing that it is located between North America, South America, and Central America.

(Yeah, yeah, I know it doesn’t border on any South American countries, but it’s intended to be a uniting name rather than a dividing name.)

Well, you could define the entire Caribbean as the “Gulf of the Americas”, but that isn’t the point of the exercise. The point is the revival of the “Roosevelt Corollary” where the US, known to some as “America” dominates the entire hemisphere.

Does that mean we continue to run trade deficits and handout money? Just asking for a friend.

Was the Gulf of Mexico a dividing name? Seems like the recent proposed change is clearly intended to be dividing.

I’m confused, we aren’t supposed to change confederate names because we need to respect history, but it’s OK to change other names that are historical. To be clear, there’s hypocrisy on both sides of the argument.

The silliness is getting out of control. See Buddy Carter’s proposed act to authorize negotiations to purchase or otherwise acquire Greenland and change the name to Red White, and Blueland…

The US is becoming a seriously unserious country.

“Some Danes are now flipping the script, suggesting their leaders buy California and turn it into “New Denmark.” More than 220,000 people had signed the satirical petition as of Wednesday morning.”
