This is the 3D chess we’ve been hearing so much about. Fewer people coming to see the Grand Canyon means we’ll need fewer people in the National Park Service so we can get rid of even more of them. That will mean fewer admissions to campgrounds, which means less accounting, so we’ll need fewer people counting the money. It also means fewer meals at restaurants, so tax collections will be lower, meaning we need fewer people at the IRS checking receipts, and fewer people staying in hotels means even fewer.
Oh, it goes on and on. Soon we’ll only need one airplane and one gate at each airport, and just one controller in each tower. The savings are gonna be FABULOUS!

And, with no-one visiting the national parks, their forests can be clear cut, then then land strip mined, because “no-one was using the parks anyway”.
