This is hard to watch

The narco-traficantes of Mexico have been so stunningly successful that they are now largely dealt with almost like the other rich evil powerful families of Mexico. If the US sent any idiots South the Narcos would happily raise their popularity by temporarily uniting and as gruesomely as possible slaughtering said idiots. And then would track down who bankrolled them and alert affiliates al Norte of the size of immense rewards for gruesomely (with video proof) destroying them.

The USA Army and Marines would be a different matter. But (fortunately) I expect they would refuse to be available.

What happened when USian/UK idiots went swaning around in Syrian and Iraqi war zones? The “Islamic State” captured some, and beheaded them on video.

What happened after IS beheaded some US/UK idiots? US troops went in to mop up IS. US troops are still in Syria today.

I’m confused. Are you arguing for or against the ad hoc invasion?

Greenland first? As in conquering first?

So would the US army…think General Milly…his ilk are there…

If he’s on the lam from a warrant for arrest, trial, and execution, for calling the Chinese to assure them that the “thought leader” isn’t going to launch an attack on them? He would have nothing to lose, vs Shiny-land establishing martial law in Mexico.

I don’t believe anyone is advocating a large military invasion. I believe they are talking about something along the lines of how we got Bin Laden. Targeting the cartel leadership and then returning to the U.S.

Now how the Mexican government reacts would be interesting. They could totally support it, or publicly denounce it but privately support it, or be totally against it. David probably has a good idea how they would respond.

So you are proposing the “Clear And Present Danger” approach, rather than a repeat of the Pancho Villa expedition, or the Veracruz incident.

Thing is, a full-on invasion would have the added utility (or not, depending on your point of view) of shooing migrants away from the border.

Correct. Florida belonged to Spain. Note how THAT has been carefully UNSTATED.

How about this map instead…
