Thousand Trails is an entity that owns and operates Recreation Vehicle (RV) locations across the USA. They have called their locations a variety of names - resorts, campgrounds, preserves, etc. The original entity is over 55 years old, and over the years has acquired resorts and membership from other smaller entities. In most cases, the format was very consistent - there was an initial fee (base price) and some type of recurring aspect.
In late 2024, Thousand Trails (TT) opted for a somewhat different model. The company has opted for fixed term memberships (either 2-year or 4-year terms), that come in three varieties - Journey, Explore and Adventure. A flat fee for either term. Journey is the cheapest, Adventure the most expensive. The major difference between the three is booking window and special perks. To my knowledge, the booking window only become relevant for select parks (some Florida locations & two Palm Springs locations) during winter times. There might be other exceptions to other locations during specific holidays, but those are typically shorter e.g. a holiday weekend or two.
I just signed up for a two-year Journey membership. My plan is to test this new membership type. In particular, seeing if any of the perks, or lack of perks, make me consider an upgrade in the future.
FWIW, there are other accommodation types besides RV sites and tents. Unless it is included as a perk/benefit, one usually pays to stay at a TT cabin, or TT yurt, or TT rental RV. Still, depending on location e.g. TT location near Yosemite NP or near Mt Hood (in OR), the nicer, upscale options might be worth it.
