AMD to use 2nm in 2025? I have lost track of the road map a bit but I had the impression that they usually stayed off of the latest and greatest process for cost reasons and to avoid getting into capacity fights.
How much less power will chiplets draw at 2 nm than currently? I think AMD will own the highest end server niche, which will be defined as AMD servers and only AMD servers. This will be good for AMD and worse for Intel. I suspect that AMD will use larger process controller CPUs and 2 nm just for chiplets. Given chiplets per part, it may even lead to AMD redefining high end GPU which would hurt NV instead. The thing I do NOT see happening is both. I also imagine AMD will start shrinking controller CPU processes to give a mild boost to their lesser servers. Or (pure speculation) maybe a combination of smaller and larger process chiplets to enable a total line refresh.
One thing I’ve learned is that Dr. Su often surprises me with her plans. AMD is far more reliable for many years than it was under JS!!!
