Targeting civilian power plants unless there is a specific military objective is defined as a war crime under the Geneva Convention.
This is not hypothetical. A number of former Yugoslavian military leaders were sentenced to life in prison by an international tribunal for attacks on civilian infrastructure. Bosnian president Slobodan Milošević was indicted but died in jail before trial.
Any American commanders who issue such orders will likely be unable to leave the country for fear of arrest.

In another major escalation, we may lose another ~7 million barrels of daily oil supply.
A key advisor to Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is now threatening to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.
“If the White House thinks of repeating its stupid mistakes, it will quickly realize that the flow of global energy and trade can be disrupted with a single signal,” he said.
On top of the ~7 million barrels of daily oil supply flowing through this Strait, ~22% of global seaborne container trade travels through Bab al-Mandab each year.
Between the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, we could see as much as 25 million barrels in daily oil supply offline.
And, Iran has officially rejected a US proposal to open the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for temporary ceasefire, per WSJ.
Oil prices are setting up for $120+/barrel.

It seems there are many benefits from the new energy conservation initiative kicking in.
Less congested roads and less crowded vacations coming?
Also a boon to local tourism, more healthy eat from home vs dine out, maybe spur oil drilling off the Florida coast.

I’ve never understood people changing plans because of higher fuel costs. Our vacations expenses, from highest to lowest, was lodging, meals, entertainment/admissions, fuel, souvenirs.
I realize fuel costs can drive the other categories higher, but the actual cost of fuel to make the trip is insignificant when compared to the total cost of the vacation.

With the latest version of FSD, Tesla owners (With Hardware 4) are opting for driving 14 to 16 hour road trips vice flying. They are reporting that it is cheaper and less stressful. In some cases faster.

It might not be the fuel costs of the trip. It might be that rising fuel costs have eaten into the funds that they have to pay for that “total cost of the vacation.” They cancel the vacation not because they will spend an extra $50 during that actual vacation (assuming it’s a driving trip), but because they’re staring down the prospect of several hundred dollars (or more) in gas expenses that they weren’t otherwise budgeting for. For many families, that’s enough to cause a rethink of their vacation plans.

Yup. With 60%-65% of people living paycheck to paycheck, there’s not much wiggle room when prices go up. Housing up, utilities up, food up, healthcare up, insurance up, gas up = savings down.
The required costs of living are going up, it makes sense that the voluntary spending on things like vacations would be significantly impacted. We’re all still slaves to Maslow.
