Just a quickie. I got the expected bill for “estimated tax penalty” (oops). But I got TWO bills. One for me, one for 1poorlady. We’re MFJ. Is it safe to assume that they notified both of us, but we only have to pay one of them?
Are they identical other than who they are addressed to? With the same amount due?
Is the amount due in line with your expectation of what the penalty was going to be?
The IRS can send out duplicate notices - one to each spouse - since each spouse can be held individually responsible for the amount due, in case one skips out. If the notices are identical, that’s probably what happened. If they are not identical, or the amount due is significantly different than what you expected, then you may want to call the IRS.

Yes, amounts were identical. Neither were addressed to both of us. Each was addressed to each of us.
Ballpark. The software didn’t calculate it (CashApp). But it should be in that range.
I expected they were just sending one to each of us. Just wanted to confirm that is their standard procedure.
