Its name is “Rural Metro”, and they are a well established company, doing this in lots of unincorporated areas in Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, Oregon, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. I would hazard a guess that they serve well over 100 communities, but don’t really know.
They hold open houses once a year, and occasionally come door to door to offer free “fire audits” to see if you have smoke detectors working, fire extinguishers, etc. You are not required to let them in to your house if you don’t want. They’re quite pro-active.
Yes, their fire equipment is top of the line: bright red trucks & fully equipped ambulances, staffed by full time professionals who are trained in their respective arts.
There are competitors in this field, although because of its very nature (communities too small or unwilling to have tax supported government services) they are by nature fragmented.
Here’s what’s going on behind the curtain:
Global Medical Response, the parent company of the nationwide private fire department, announced this week that its companies, Rural Metro Fire and Valley Fire Services, will be operated by Brindlee Fire Services under the Rural Metro Fire brand.
