Wow, UnitedHealthCare CEO targeted and shot dead in NYC

Police are investigating the shooting as a targeted attack, the person said.

If this is related to “healthcare system” issues, I wonder if it could have any macro effect at some point?

Violence–especially gun violence–seems to be everywhere. We used to speak of disgruneled employees “going postal.”. Now it seems to be expanding to the C Suite. Sad. Very sad.

Even presidential candidates now speak behind plastic shields. Many corporate executives probably have personal security on hand when in public.

Are we headed to metal detectors and weapons searches at shareholders meetings?

What can be done to reduce conflict? And violence? Especially gun violence?

Maybe only certain ones.

It is interesting. He is a man who put profits well before anyone else’s life. He loved to fatten his own wallet as others died.

He never made use of his intelligence to actually contribute to society. Unless you consider other people joining him in making sure 30k deaths in the US happen to the uninsured and underinsured per year. He had no trouble sleeping at night. Wonderful.

From comments here, he must have deserved to die.

Nooo Not so.

The people he left to die…I thought he wanted them to die.

What I am reading in the comments is that he through the company UHC may have made some of his customers unhappy. I hope that his killer is found so that they are brought to justice.

I agree. I hope the killer is brought to justice.

But the Czar should not have been surprised either. People have needs beyond his next $100 million. The CEOs need to take stock of a more stable society.

Of COURSE the killer needs to be caught and brought to justice. But…google “United Health McNaughton” and tell me what you think about the McNaughton case.

There is a lot more of that.

He was a horror.

The comment section is horrendous. Not that I disagree but it is beyond where I go for ugly.

Broadest point is, this is Shiny-land, were disputes as trivial as people’s car driving style, now result in gunfights.

Based on what I’ve read so far, it doesn’t appear to be a “gunfight” and it doesn’t appear to be common “gun violence”. It appears to be a planned assassination with the murderer using a silenced weapon and getting away pretty cleanly.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was someone upset about a “pre-authorization approval”.

I doubt one CEO killing is enough to change healthcare. There’s too many wealthy and connected people making bank on the status quo.

My preference would be to jail more of them (i.e., CEOs)

Live updates: Brian Thompson, UnitedHealthcare CEO, fatally shot in New York | CNN

Seems to be a targeted killing, IMO.

Not “The Onion”.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of New York, Connecticut and Missouri announced today that they will no longer cover anesthesia for the full length of a surgery if they deem it ran too long. You’ll be wide awake for “the closing”.

I am reminded of the old joke: “What do you call 50 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?”

“A good start”.

Let’s hope not. It would be an incredibly bad precedent.

Despicable. Let’s not promote violence.
