US Chinese Car Ban Hurts Ford & GM

Liz Cannon, who leads the department’s information and communication technology office, told the outlet that the rules would force General Motors and Ford to stop selling vehicles they import to the U.S. from China.

As expressed in other threads, no worries for GM and Ford. Salesmen will simply push the Buick and Lincoln prospects into the next larger, more expensive, model, and the company makes more money off them. Even if the salesmen fail in their job of upselling every prospect, it is worth it to GM and Ford to prevent the Chinese entering the US and competing on price, which would hurt the GM/Ford business model of ever increasing ATP and GP.

Nonsense. Of course the headline does not include the low end of that estimate, which is in the body of the article: barely over 1,000 cars/year. But the entire premise is nonsense, because it assumes that people who cannot buy a car with the latest Chinese gimmick screen in the dash, will not buy a car at all.

The other thing, raising prices, is the objective. GM and Ford do NOT want Chinese companies entering the US market and competing on price, as newcomers always do.

They could buy US made Teslas instead.

It estimated between 1,680 and 25,841 fewer vehicles would be sold annually

What ? In the US, about 12 - 15 million cars are sold every year.
