An artist sculpted a toilet out of 223 pounds of gold, a weight valued at about $10 million in current gold markets. Sotheby’s is betting it can auction off the golden bowl for even more.
The 18-karat toilet was created by Maurizio Cattelan, the same impish artist behind last year’s $6.2 million duct-tape banana.
This guy is having people on.
Georgia O’Keefe was married to a renowned photographer Alfred Stieglitz who own several art galleries in NYC. He had a friend asked Stieglitz to let him try something. He hung a very used urinal on the wall. And some people stood around it with their hand on their chin saying;“Yes it makes quite a statement.”
I read the above, at least 30 years ago, in a long article about the rise of O"Keefe as an artist and it covered her marriage to Stieglitz and his photography and business career.
