I was wondering when that shoe would drop. It would have been too simple to buy the Belvedere, IL plant that Stellantis is closing, and get a union workforce. MBAs would not go for that. Better to build a greenfield plant, with massive government subsidies, in a resolutely anti-union state.
Wonder if the build quality will be on par with BMW and ZF plants in that state, or the Boeing cluster-poo?

That’s not the only part of the decision. I suspect, that with all the recent news out of Tesla, they’ve decided that ANY old factory is not appropriate for building EVs. At this point they believe that only a new factory designed from the ground up is appropriate for manufacturing EVs.
