The future school would be located at the location of Walmart’s former home office in Bentonville, Arkansas, according to Axios, which first broke the story today.
Development of the new university will be guided by the advice of both local and national education experts. The institution, as of yet unnamed, would offer “a modern, flexible, and accessible model that is both STEM-focused and business-infused,” according to the announcement.
A notable noblesse oblige from the Walton family.
I would suspect the deal will be structured so the Waltons receive a tax deduction for the donated buildings.
That being said, I an heartened to see some personal wealth put into education, but will the education there be evidence based, or will it conform to official dictate from DC?

Alice Walton is also building a holistically oriented medical school that I, I believe, will begin accepting students in the next year or two.
This , too, will be in beautiful northwest AR- Bentonville. This “ cycling capital of the world” is also home to Alice-built Crystal Bridges Museum of American art where there is a huge emphasis on high level free art education, exhibits, workshops, performances for the long previously underserved children of this area of the country.
The Walton family has long been generous to their hometown, beginning with the gracious Helen Walton (Sam’s wife) many years ago, even before extreme wealth was a reality.
