These people are all either clueless and just regurgitating lines like preschoolers reciting childhood rhymes. Or, they are hand-wringing, cold-sweating, eye-twitching, desperately fearful people trying to convince themselves more than anybody else.
Current management is willing & able to do anything. Anything, if it suits their purpose.

If the Social Security checks don’t go out, I expect a half dozen Republicans to switch parties to save their jobs.
Early in Bush the Lessor’s tenure he tried to roger Vermont’s GOP senator Jim Jeffords on dairy subsidies. Jeffords switched parties and handed control of the Senate to the DEMs – even Mitch McConnell was in awe.

I expect the goal is to fire enough SS admin that the system begins to stop working smoothly, at which point it will be privatized in order to “save” it. Which will enable the JC’s to skim a 15% management fee off of it, and to steer the investment balances into funds held by other cronies. With no SEC oversight, it really will fail. Then some future Democratic administration will have to take the heat for the clearly socialist move of nationalizing it back into the government.
