What's Trump up to?

Is it to do with the large oil reserves or something else?

The U.S. military build up along South America’s northern rim is, Washington insists, aimed at “narco-terrorists.” A growing chorus of analysts aren’t convinced; they suspect what the Trump administration is really after is regime change in Venezuela.

Is that what we are calling confiscation of oil reserves?

Must be the non-interventionist - bring our troops home - policy committed while on the campaign trail.

Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world. That probably has something to to with it. Chinese and Russian influence in the region also comes into play.

This has nothing to do with drugs. Requiring everyone involved, including the military, to sign NDAs tells us everything we need to know.

The answer to “what’s trump up to” is always “nothing good”. The question is, how bad is it?

This has nothing to do with drugs of course. And those civilians he is killing? It’s a war crime, full stop. And our media is refusing to call it out. Imagine if Joe had done it. Or W.

It is almost certainly a combination of oil and his own ego. Probably his ego.

Venezuala not only has large petroleum deposits, they are of a type (mostly “sour heavy”) that combines optimally with USA’s big developed deposits (lots of “sweet light”) in existing USA refineries.

The total corruption and stunning stupidity of Venezuela’s ruling clique has caused a near collapse of Venezuelan oil production. Taking it over would be like easily shaking the limbs of a big fenced off orchard of ripe fruit. As the ruling clique brandishes wild-eyed leftist slogans and attitudes (almost all that distinguishes its policies from fascism), a takeover would please much of Trump’s base.

The people behind the Nobel prize are slipping.

Maybe just reminding the rest of the world about the Monroe Doctrine.
