This has been going on forever.

In the case of commodity products, all should be equivalent and interchangeable. The supplier who can deliver cheapest should get the order. The lowest cost producer should set prices.

Suppliers constantly try to convince us theirs is better than the commodity and worth paying more for. Some are clever enough to succeed. Or sometimes consumers are dumb enough to fall for the sales pitch!!
