2022 Tesla Model Y had a starting price of $64,990 when new. Lots of them available in the $32,000 range and below today.

It’s expensive to be an early adopter.
It’s even more expensive to be an early adopter during a shortage.
And even more expensive than that to be an early adopter during a shortage and just after a pandemic when everyone is finally out doing stuff.
But none of that matters to someone deciding to buy a new car today. The only thing that might matter is the depreciation going forward. So, if you spend $44,990 on a new model Y today, what will it be worth in 5 years when you may want to sell it? And I think, for most people, it might only cost $37.5k because there’s an instant $7,500 rebate from the government.
