An IRS Christmas Gift for taxpayers

IRS to forgive $1 Billion in tax penalties because the agency lacked the manpower to send out timely notices. Sheds new light on the ignorance and innumeracy of the so-called “defict hawks” who want to defund the IRS. {{ LOL }}.

… but only if you owe less than $100,000 in Federal income taxes.

From the link:
“The agency said it’s waiving the penalties because it stopped mailing automated reminders in February 2022 because of the pandemic.”

February of '22 ???
An automated process shouldn’t require too much in the way of manpower to continue.

True. But what about all the steps leading up to that “automated process”?

It seems the process leading up to the automated process worked as well given they were assessed penalties. The decision to suspend notices seems to be a purposeful one in response due to Covid. Even those that did the right thing and paid will be getting refunds.

Meanwhile, eligible taxpayers who already paid the failure-to-pay penalties related to 2020 and 2021 taxes will get a refund or credit.”

Seems nothing to do with man power

Oh I am sure that someone could whip it out in BASIC on a TRS-80, or maybe a VIC20 to really cut costs, in an afternoon. :smirk:
