Apple Updates - iOS17

iOS, iPadOS and WatchOS all dropped today and installed without issue. I expect MacOS also dropped, just have not gotten there yet.

I think Iā€™ll wait for 17.1. :sunglasses:

I understand that. But that might be a while.

Usually we see during the last 30/60 days before release a several changes & fixes in the various Beta releases. I have not keep track, but my sense it there have been fewer items and also fewer betas with iOS 17 vs previous recent years.

I expect to hear a lot of grousing about WatchOS. It is a large change and it will take time to even know what is there. Deciding what to display and optimize things will take longer.

Well, another decision time! Anything vital?

No problems with anything I have tried. I will let AppleTVs update when they want. I have done Watch, iPhone and iPad. Zero issues.

I will do MacOS this evening.

Just checked and there is no update for MacOS. I am guessing it was not supposed to drop with the iOS stuff. If it was and has not yet certainly there would be lots of new in several of my feeds.

Must be getting too old or else I am just loosing my brains for some other reason.

I have a vague memory of a point update that came right on the heals of the release of a big upgrade. The larger participant pool can turn up things missed in beta, and Iā€™m in no particular hurry.

OK, not sure why, but the WatchOS 10 took a long time to be dealt with, but it seems happy tooā€¦

This update had a ton of new watch faces - over 100 or over 200 as I recall from presentation. My guess is the watch faces are a lot more than just an image. So I suspect the update time is related to a band width constraint.

Spotted this to explain some complaints on battery charge concerns:

Have not seen any significant change in iPhone battery life, but did see one with Watch battery life. My day normally ended with 25% to 35% on WatchOS9. With WatchOS10 I hit 10% about an hour before going to bed. Might be a one time thing, might be real.

Since update battery definitely draining faster. PITA

I usually put my watch on the charger in the morning and get it an hour later fully charged. This morning was different. It was only charged 80%. I didnā€™t look at it this morning to see how drained it was before putting it on the charger. Now I wish I would have but it must have been drainedā€¦doc

Do you have ā€œOptimized Battery Chargingā€ set to ON? If you do, it will sometimes only charge to 80% depending how it estimates you will be using it.

My watch (a model 7) seems to be draining battery a little quicker after the update, but just a bit quicker. I wear it 22 to 23 hours a day and for every workout. Except for my swim on Monday when I forgot to remove it from the charger and put it on my wrist. I was very annoyed at myself.

Today my watch usage was normal. Yesterday must have been a ā€˜One Offā€™ or an operator foul up.

Iā€™ll check but it usually charges to 100% in an hourā€¦doc

Yep, watch charges very quickly, less than 1hr but uses battery too quickly imho.

And some more info, if needed, I did a reboot, just becauseā€¦ My old 11 Pro Max ate a lot of battery yesterday, so checked a few things, see how it goesā€¦
