Are Teslas filling up parking lots?

I can’t vouch for this site, but we’ve seen other manufacturers have this supply outstripping demand problem over the years.

Maybe, but maybe not. There are always bottlenecks associated with logistics. Doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

Depends on the time stamps of the photos. Q1 had big logistic bottlenecks. Many cars could not be delivered.

And in Europe…

"Port and car industry executives have pointed to a pile-up of Chinese electric cars as one of the leading causes of the problem…

“Some car industry executives said Chinese carmakers were not selling their vehicles in Europe as fast as they expected, which was a major contributor to the glut at the region’s ports.”

People in China and the EU will NOT buy Chinese EVs. The reason we do not know that any of the Chinese manufacturers will survive. Where do you get parts after the failures?

The Chinese companies are going to go bankrupt. BYD is suspected of not making a profit as well, unknown as of this year.

The US tariffs are necessary. The prices have to be reasonable for the US or EU companies to be profitable. The Chinese are making liars of themselves. Buy a Chinese product from a fly-by-night company? No thanks.

The photo in St Louis is Chesterfield Mall in St Louis County. It is a failed mall soon to be torn down and rebuilt. Remaining stores are closing in August.

The Teslas are still there and some say increasing in number. Apparently a distribution center for the area. No wait for your Tesla these days. My guess is a train load of Teslas arrived from one of their factories and will be delivered from here by truck.

Parking space is available at the mall for now. People are wondering where they will go when construction begins.

We thought weeks ago that China was having blowout sales in Europe of EVs. We thought the prices were why. But the prices are why not to buy.

You pay for what you get in this world.

Falling retail prices cut the resale value of used EVs. That makes them a poor investment–in addition to the shortage of recharging stations, and cold weather performance.

Have you missed all the posts about how this is largely a myth, at least when it comes to Tesla and some other quality brands?

We will know it is really bad when you see Temu ads for EVs popping up in your browser.

In Europe a Byd seal car costs as much as a Tesla model 3. What is the incentive to buy Chinese?

Andy

Better service, availability of spare parts, lower insurance cost, and so on.

Yes, I have seen none of this. The problems of the winter performance last year are well known to the public. I have seen no documentation to the contrary. Suddenly there is strong preference for hybrids over EVs.

In Europe? From that video that leap put out I can’t see how that can be true. If you only sell 80 cars how can you run a repair shop? If the car costs as much as a Tesla how can the insurance be lower?

Andy

BYD (and so on) want to be more competitive. Having better availability and lower costs for repair parts and service does that vs Tesla.

I have seen some over dramatization, but what other than the problem with the one Supercharger site near Chicago?

I.e., is there any actual, systematic issue that you can point to? People with Teslas and other quality makes run just fine through the winter without issues.

Reduced range is not a myth.

Driving electric vehicles in cold temperatures has the unfortunate effect of slashing an EV’s driving range; a AAA study found range can be reduced by 41% on average when the temperature drops from 75 degrees Fahrenheit to 20 degrees and the climate control system is used to heat the cabin…

Cars.com’s long-term 2021 Tesla Model Y has 326 miles of EPA-estimated range, so we examined the first 14 months and 13,000 miles of driving data to see how cold weather affected the electric SUV’s efficiency and potential range…

So, on those mornings where it’s near zero the range is reduced from 260 to 150, down over 40%.

And then there are the frozen door handles. And hot afternoons in the Arizona sun…

I have seen cowboys in Montana putting a tub under their ice vehicles with wood in it and lighting it up to thaw out their trucks radiator. They didn’t get anywhere until their truck thawed out. So every mode of travel has it’s flaws.

And its common to have plug in crackcase heaters in places like Alaska to keep motor from turning to gel. One reason arctic engine oils like Mobil One were developed. Lower pour point. Better low temp performance.
