I’ve never invested in AI. Too much of a risk and too much borrowing
Ditto. I took the picks and shovels approach similar to the Gold Rush. Make money selling stuff to people hoping to make money.
Regarding AI, 60 years after first reading i still find myself deeply impressed by Frank Herbert’s description of “The Butlerian Jihad” as a primary reflexive reaction to alien tyranny….
We are sleep-walking into a realm of possibilities that We Are NOT biologically, ethically, nor rationally prepared for.
I am, after years of battling sexual bigotry with significant success, living the last decades of my life in the service of creating “arks of preservation” for ecologies and modes of life I see as endangered by heedless stampeding after perilous, unnatural, immoral forms of wealth and power.
I noticed the sleepers today at work.
But I thought, we have had reams of code with us behind the scenes for decades. I worked with 32k COBOL programs at PW. For the human experience it disappears into the background. In OBB at PW we were told the COBOL was brittle code. AI is fixing that code primarily. There is the phone conversation with a bot that actually is beginning to make sense and does not hide its identity or ability to schedule.
I have a distribution/shipping problem that permeates our business across the sales channel, client services. We have to keep our client services, but our costs for the last few decades has been steep. To the point of being ignored.
I can reintroduce regional to this, but three weeks ago, we went AI. This does not mean distribution went AI yet. The curveball is the timing for the discussion. I would rather be above board with my immediate manager. But he can not go again with the issues I bring up to the regional. It is getting to the point of being insulting. Loved for the savings, but why was this all not dealt with? I feel I can trust regional, but I can not tell them to do their job. Adding why? If distribution goes to AI then this gets solved.
Ironically, while I have written all my code or licensed the assets legally, my debugging is helped by AI. I went to AI months ago.
My nephew went to AI months ago. His response last Christmas was he would never need it. Now he finds it a huge time saver. Useful.
Other side of the family, in-laws with physics degrees, AI months ago.
Claude to a man. Not even a question.
There is a great irony here.
To varying degrees, if the AI LLM does not have integrity, it does not work as well. You can not problem solve with false premises. That sums up the entirety of life in the US in a nutshell.
Human beings do not accept lies. Very ironic to say that, since the body politic is continuously lying. But the human lying hammers out endlessly against finding the truth, our real pursuit. A moving target.
If AI is shady, human beings reject it. Just as we would reject any human injection of garbage.
Artists used to post to Facebook and simply sell a print or an original. Now that won’t work. Artists have tried to pay for ads, and generally, now that won’t work. Art is the biggest part of the hammering out the truth process. Inherently, a 2D object is not the 3D object it professes. And a plain painted wall needs covering.
AI marketing has begun. It will work till it does not work much. Getting spread thinner and thinner. Like butter at the bottom of the Kerry Gold container. LOL. We will outgrow AI. If it lies, we will outgrow it faster.
I am an optimist. The body politic here as it currently stands will be outgrown by 2028. No one currently on the national level will win. None of them stand a chance. They are badly tainted in all directions. Pushing for honesty would make one of them stand out. I am sure all of them think they are pushing for honesty. Horse hockey. They all know they have compromised to far too long ago. The lot of them think they are towing the party line. Really they gave up on the public. The public does not know the truth on its own. Taxes need to be raised substantially.
