It has now been reported on multiple news sites that the state of California will be phasing-in a ban on the sale of new gas-powered cars over the next 13 years.
12 more states are expected to follow California’s suit.

Until they come up with realistic infrastructure charging solutions for apartments, condos, on street parkers, etc. it’s pretty much just wishful thinking. Hybrid and plug-in Hybrids may be interm solutions for most. I just don’t see apartment people wanting to go down to their local charging station and spending litterly hours charging up their EV.

They already have. Deployment is the issue now. Tesla destination chargers are available for commercial installation. See <https://www.tesla.com/commercial-charging>.
That takes care of most EVs. Others will be handled as Tesla opens up it’s destination chargers to non-Teslas. Tesla is already making their Superchargers generally available in some places in Europe, soon to expand to the US (by the end of this year).
But really, the law is kind of pointless. Nobody will want to buy a new ICE by 2035. Buying a new ICE now is already a bad idea in terms of depreciation, and by 2025 will only be justifiable if you can’t charge anywhere.

Those that take long trips are still not going to be in love with EVs. First, you head out. Your car gets 250 miles on a full charge in good weather. If it’s cold, snowing, it won’t.
So you go 200 miles. Then you look for a charger. You find one, but if you read the specs, it will charge you to 85% of battery in 20-30 minutes. So you sit and wait. But now you don’t have 250 mile range. You have 85% of that, and you won’t want to run down below 15% or so. So you now have to stop in 150 miles or so, less in bad weather. And sit and charge, and get 190 or 200 miles of range.
Meanwhile, the ICE car, getting 30 mpg, has yet to stop. Oh, about 400 miles at 1/4 empty. Five minutes to fill up 100%. Another 400 miles.
You can leave Texarkana TX and still be in TX 900 miles later headed west to El Paso.
Same if you start in south TX and head north up to the panhandle - 800 miles before you hit OK.
When they come up with 400-500 batteries and 15 minute recharge give me a call.
Otherwise I’ll likely be driving an ICE on trips for the next 10-15 years. Or a hybrid.
Might buy an EV for zipping around town. You know those 200 mile type jobs.

As always, you haven’t the slightest idea what you’re talking about. People who have a Tesla and some other car will always choose to take the Tesla on long trips. It’s just better, for that purpose or almost any other.*
And Texas is covered with superchargers (see <supercharge.info>. Anywhere you want to go. And slow chargers for overnight stops.

*If you’re towing something heavy and non-aerodynamic into the boonies, an EV probably won’t work well.

Ring. Ring.
The Tesla Model S long range is rated a 405 miles.
Yeah, you can’t fully charge it in 15 minutes yet.
But if you need to drive 800-900 miles in a day, two 15-20 minute recharges should do it.
But at 70 mph that is 12 hours of driving.
I doubt you really want to drive that long with just one 15 minute stop.

Yeah, the older I get, the less I want to do the ‘iron butt’ routine of going as long as possible without stopping. Unpleasant and unhealthy. I like to stop every hour and half or so and walk around for a few minutes, at minimum.

Been known to leave Dallas TX 6am. First stop CHildress TX - 4 to 4 1/2 hour later. 15 minute stop for gas and pit. Then to Denver. 15 min stop. Last stop Cheyenne WY - 800 miles in a day. Next day to Bozeman MT - another 800+ miles.
Same going east on I-40 - to TN - 12 hours. Stop every 4 hours for gas/pit stop for 15 min. Next night in VA - another 800 miles.
I’ve slowed down a bit, but the 2016 car has 146,000 miles - but most miles in first 3 years. Getting to be ‘too senior’ to repeat 12 hour days.

My long distance driving habits changed when I got a dog and started taking trips with it. I would hold the driving times down to not more than seven hours in a day for the dog’s sake, and then I found that I preferred it that way for myself also.
Your dog is an “it”?
If you need a longer drive, consider one of these:
